Days of thanks: Healthy vision

Yesterday, I posted about how thankful I am for medicine in light of my daughter’s pink eye.  Her eye is much better today.  It has me thinking about how thankful I am for the gift of healthy eyes and good vision.

On my own, I don’t have great eyesight.  I’m nearsighted and require glasses or contacts.  Most of the time, I think of the glasses and contacts as a great annoyance.  But during my month of thanks, I’m trying to change how I look at things.

Really, what a great blessing it is to have solutions available to correct my vision!  I get to see clearly every day through the simple act of putting on glasses or contacts.  I should not take that for granted.  Many people don’t have that luxury.

As I get older, I’ve started having eye irritations that give me more appreciation for healthy eyes.  I’ve been to the ophthalmologist for painful dry eyes that cause light sensitivity and (ironically) excessively watery eyes.

It’s no fun to have eye problems.  I’m thankful that mine aren’t worse.  Good vision is a wonderful thing – and so are glasses, contacts, soothing eye drops, and other things that help us see clearly!
