It works for me: Soothing sea salt soap for rosacea

Sometimes simple observations lead to great breakthroughs. That’s what happened when I realized that my skin always looks and feels better after I have spent time in the ocean on vacation.

I joked with my hubby that we needed to move to the coast for therapeutic reasons. Or at least go on more beach vacations. But the best solution has been to bring the benefits of the ocean home with a simple little bar of sea salt soap.Using sea salt soap for rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis -

You see, for several years I’ve been dealing with the dual difficulty of rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis. It’s especially bad during the cold winter months.

Sometimes it has felt like my skin is allergic to air.

Dermatologists have prescribed several things that have been minimally helpful, and I’ve tried a lot of homeopathic suggestions that I found on the Web. Nothing brought me much relief until my salt water observation.

Since salt has curative properties, I decided I had nothing to lose by trying sea salt soap for rosacea. I started washing my face with it once a day. I was hesitant about putting too much salt on my face, fearing I would dry it out, so I kept using my old cleanser once a day as well.

I didn’t notice a huge change right away. In fact, when that first bar of sea salt soap was gone, I decided to forget about it and just keep using my old cleanser. I thought it was another trial that didn’t live up to my hope for a solution.

After a day or two, I was vividly aware that the sea salt soap had been helping more than I had known. My skin started to flare up again with itching and burning. I rushed to get more soap. This time I chose a Dead Sea soap after reading more about the unique properties of the Dead Sea.

In an effort to get back on track quickly, I started washing my face exclusively with the Dead Sea soap. This is when I fully realized the benefits of the sea salt soap for my rosacea. My face started to look and feel better than it had in a long time.

My skin care regimen using sea salt soap for rosacea and dermatitis

My standard practice now is to use sea salt soap to cleanse my face twice a day.

I use the One With Nature Dead Sea Minerals Soap (Amazon affiliate link).  This soap has a combination of Dead Sea salts and 21 minerals plus shea butter and Argan oil. The minerals and moisturizers do a good job counteracting the drying effects of the salt. Yes, sometimes the salt stings – but I tell myself that’s the feeling of healing for my skin.

Update:  I’ve now added a vitamin C serum to my skin care routine.  I apply it and let it dry before moisturizing.  I found that it helps with the rosacea redness and improves the texture of my skin.  The additional improvement in the tone of my skin has been fantastic since I started using a vitamin c serum!

After cleansing, I follow up with OZ Naturals Facial Moisturizer (Amazon affiliate link). It’s a gentle, 72% organic herbal moisturizer that works well for me and does not irritate my skin.

In the past, I have also used the Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturizer (Amazon affiliate link). I will note that my husband tried this moisturizer while we were traveling and he forgot his own (yep, he’s big on moisturizing). He said the smell bothered him and decided not to use it again. I don’t mind the fragrance, and he’s never commented on the smell when I use it, so I guess it’s not strong enough to bother others.

Sometimes I also use the Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes (Amazon affiliate link) before the sea salt soap, depending on how much makeup I wore that day.

The great thing is that I feel like I need less makeup to hide my skin. I should add that I like Revlon ColorStay liquid makeup for normal/dry skin as my foundation because it looks and feels the most natural when I have dry spots from the dermatitis.

The sea salt soap doesn’t cure all the flare ups from my rosacea and dermatitis, especially in the winter months, but it helps tremendously. While I wish that my skin would be normal again, I’m happy I now have this skin care routine since it has made my face feel so much better.

Everyone’s skin is different so I don’t know how well this regimen of sea salt soap for rosacea and dermatitis would work for others. I’m sharing my experience with the hope that it may be helpful for others who have struggled with the same annoying skin issues I’ve had!
